Musclecarclub.com - Mitsubishi Eclipse
Introduction: The Mitsubishi Eclipse was launched, in 1989 as a brand new 1990 model. It was one of three "sister" cars (along with the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser)jointly produced by Mitsubishi and Chrysler by Diamond Star Motors (DSM). Comments: The Mitsubishi Eclipse debuted in 1989 as a 1990 model. It was built built in the Diamond Star Motors (DSM) plant in Normal, Illinois along with its twins the Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon. All three were front wheel drive, three door sporty hatchbacks powered by four cylinder engines. All three shared similar styling and features. But right from the beginning, the Eclipse was the most sporty and aggressive of the three. The Eclipse was available in four trim levels. Comments: The Mitsubishi Eclipse was all new for 2000, as it shed some of its boy-racer looks and performance, in exchange for more sophistication. Gone were the wild (but unpopular) turbo charged engines and all wheel drive. The Eclipse was now available in three trims, RS, GS, and GT.
