Based on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Endeavor crossover SUV, the 2004 Galant is significantly larger in every dimension than the car it replaces. Nowhere is this added space more appreciated than in the rear seat, where a supportive cushion, substantial legroom, and rear windows that go all the way down make it easy to transport four or five adults in comfort. Competition is keen in the midsize sedan marketplace, and Mitsubishi has missed several opportunities to raise the redesigned 2004 Galant closer to the top of the pack. For example, in addition to its lack of stability control or side curtain airbags, this new Galant cannot be equipped with satellite radio, a telematics system, a navigation system or a rear seat DVD entertainment setup. Though the company courts enthusiasts, there's no manual transmission and the Galant makes do with a four-speed rather than a five-speed automatic.

The 2004 Galant offers a roomy, comfortable interior. The seats are supportive without being overly firm. The GTS seems to offer a bit more support because the leather is more supportive than the cloth upholstery. Also, the GTS offers more adjustment.
