Press Release
The Mitsubishi SSU has been developed as an "extreme sports vehicle" for five passengers, designed to provide the fast, sporty handling of a high-performance rally car and to satisfy the needs and requirements of "adrenaline junkies" and others who enjoy very tough outdoor sports. Mitsubishi Motors currently sells some 200,000 vehicles a year through Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA). These include the ECLIPSE and GALANT models built at Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, Inc. (MMMA), and the MIRAGE, MONTERO SPORT (CHALLENGER in Japan) and 3000GT (GTO in Japan) exported from Japan.

Built in Nagoya, Japan by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, the 3000GT is known in Japan and abroad as the Mitsubishi GTO. It's twin brother, the Dodge Stealth is identical in every aspect except for its exterior styling and available options. The Mitsubishi 3000GT was first made publicly available in 1991 and featured three trim levels; the base model, SL and VR-4. Although the base and SL models are very similar, the SL includes more standard features and available options. In later years, Mitsubishi decided to go after the convertible car market and created the 3000GT Spyder. The Spyder is a convertible with a unique computer controlled retractable hardtop like roof.
Importing a Mitsubishi GTO
Possibly one of the most underrated and overlooked imports on the market, the GTO is a "supercar" in its own right. Design has been focused not only on power and looks, but also on this vehicles' road handling. There is a choice between the 3litre DOHC 24 valve twin turbo in the 3000GT (five speed manual), or the 3litre DOHC 24 valve in the GTO (4 speed auto or 5 speed manual). The GTO range comes with a bundle of extras as standard - 4WD, 4WS (4 wheel steering), 4ABS (4 wheel anti-lock brake system), 4IS (4 wheel independent suspension) and ECS (electronic control suspension). This results in an awesome driving car, despites its heavy weight.

Accelerate in a straight line from starting point and stop completely in the goal area at 1000 meters away. Since the car is heavier and more powerful, you'll need to brake earlier. The car is Mitsubishi GTO. Accelerate the straight from starting point, turn the first corner, and run through the finish gate over the hill. Be careful to corner smoothly. Going out of the course disqualifies immediately. The car is Mitsubishi GTO.

The Mitsubishi GTO was originally launched in 1970 as a part of the Colt Galant family (therefore it was called Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO) which was sold halfway through the seventies and the GTO name would not return until 1990 as its own model. In 1990 Mitsubishi developed a sport coupe to compete in the $40,000 class with the likes of the Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300ZX, Corvette, and low end Porsches. The car that dawned was the Mitsubishi GTO, and it reigned as Mitsubishi's flagship sports car from 1991-1999. The GTO was named the Mitsubishi 3000GT in the United States and Europe in order to avoid confusion and anger amongst fans of the Ferrari GTO sports car series and Pontiac GTO muscle car.
