1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport - Detailed Pricing and ...
When Mitsubishi introduced the Montero in the mid-1980s it was a small, relatively inexpensive two-door vehicle that was sold as a more refined alternative to a Jeep. Over the years the Montero, as have most sport utilities, grew larger and much more expensive. With the new Montero Sport, Mitsubishi bucks that trend by bringing back a smaller, more affordable vehicle competing in the higher-volume sport-utility vehicle segment occupied by Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Blazer and others. While it has the same wheelbase as its larger sibling, the Montero Sport is not as tall and not as bulky.

Other differences include a lowered roofline, lowered height and increased storage while retaining the same wheelbase of the original Montero.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 4WD (1997)
At roughly $10,000 less than its upscale sibling, Mitsubishi's 4WD Montero Sport shares little with the Montero. Unlike the stoic, almost archaic design and interior of the Montero, the Sport is stylish and snazzy. It's exterior appearance is svelte and the massive front end has a robust look. The tail end, with its wrap-around taillamps and sheet metal, appears minivan-like.
